** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Drin River, locally known as Lumi i Drinit, runs through Shkodër County with waters that reflect its mountainous sources and Mediterranean climate. Typical seasonal surface temperatures vary considerably: in winter (December–February) water is often around 4–8 °C (39–46 °F), in spring (March–May) it rises to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F), in summer (June–August) warm stretches can reach about 18–26 °C (64–79 °F), and in autumn (September–November) temperatures commonly fall back to 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). These figures fluctuate locally with depth, shading, inflows from tributaries and reservoirs, and interannual weather variations; mountain-fed sections stay noticeably colder than slower, lowland reaches.
Swimming in parts of the Drin is possible and commonly practiced in calmer bays, river beaches and certain reservoirs, but it is not uniformly permitted or safe everywhere. Restrictions exist near hydroelectric installations, strong currents, sudden drop-offs and areas with variable water quality; spring snowmelt and storm-driven flows can make conditions hazardous even where swimming is normally allowed. Because of cold temperatures outside high summer and the risk of underwater hazards and currents, swimmers should choose supervised or well-known spots, check local guidance and avoid restricted zones.
