*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Mat River (Lumi i Matit) in Lezhë County experiences clear seasonal variation in water temperature because it runs from mountainous springs toward the Adriatic. In winter months the river commonly cools to roughly 4–10 °C (39–50 °F), with coldest conditions in upstream canyon sections fed by snowmelt. Spring brings gradual warming, often in the range of 8–16 °C (46–61 °F) as flows pick up and ambient air temperatures rise. By summer, shallower and slower stretches can reach approximately 18–25 °C (64–77 °F), especially near the lower reaches and estuary where sunlight and lower flow allow higher temperatures. Autumn typically sees a decline toward 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) as rains and cooler air reduce surface warmth.
Swimming in the Mat is generally possible in calmer, low-current areas and at the river’s lower reaches where depth and flow are moderate, but it is not universally recommended without local knowledge. There is no blanket national prohibition, yet safety concerns such as strong currents, sudden deeper channels, variable water quality from agricultural runoff, and the absence of lifeguards mean swimmers should choose sheltered spots and avoid the river during high flow or after heavy rain. Local signage, community practices, and common-sense precautions determine where and when swimming is reasonable.
