** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Valbona River (Lumi i Valbonës) in Kukës County is an alpine, glacially fed stream running through Valbona Valley National Park, so its waters remain cold year-round. Typical seasonal surface temperatures range roughly from about 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in winter, rising to 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) in spring during snowmelt, peaking in the warmest months at roughly 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in July–August, and falling back to approximately 6–10 °C (43–50 °F) in autumn. Local readings vary by elevation, depth and recent weather: shallow pools in sunny stretches warm more than fast, shaded runs, while after heavy rain or snowmelt flows can be colder and swifter.
Swimming is generally possible but limited by safety and conservation considerations. Short dips and wading are common in summer where calmer pools form, but prolonged immersion is risky because cold temperatures can cause cold shock and hypothermia and strong currents and slippery rocks pose mechanical hazards. There are typically no lifeguards or facilities along the river, and access can be remote; spring and early-summer high flows are particularly dangerous. Visitors should exercise caution, choose sheltered pools, limit time in the water, and follow park guidance to protect both personal safety and the river’s natural environment.
