Lake Zminica is a small, picturesque glacial lake located on the Sinjajevina plateau near Žabljak, Montenegro. As it is situated in a high-altitude, remote, and protected natural area, it is not a designated or monitored swimming spot. Swimming is technically allowed, particularly for hikers seeking a refreshing dip, but it is entirely at the visitor's own risk. The focus here is on wilderness exploration and conservation, not recreational water tourism, meaning no facilities or lifeguards are present.
The high elevation of Zminica ensures that its water temperature is characteristically cold throughout the year. During the extended winter, from November to May, the lake is typically frozen and snow-covered, with water temperatures near or at 0∘C to 1∘C. Even during the warmest summer months, July and August, surface temperatures generally only reach a maximum of around 13∘C to 16∘C. This persistently cold water severely limits swimming to very short, bracing immersions, suitable only for those acclimated to cold water.
