Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Piva, or Pivsko Jezero, is a large artificial lake located in the northwestern part of Montenegro, near the town of Plužine. It was formed by damming the Piva River, surrounded by steep mountains and dramatic canyons. Sitting at an altitude of about 675 meters, the lake’s deep, clear waters have a striking turquoise color. Due to its mountainous origin and depth, Lake Piva stays cool throughout the year. In spring, water temperatures are usually between 7 and 12 °C, while in summer they rise to around 18–22 °C, depending on air temperature. During autumn, the lake cools to 12–16 °C, and in winter it drops below 8 °C.
Swimming in Lake Piva is allowed, though the water remains cold even in midsummer. The best time for swimming is in July and August, when the upper layers of water warm enough for short, refreshing swims. The lake’s clean water and scenic surroundings attract visitors for kayaking, boating, and fishing as well. Due to its high clarity and calm surface, Lake Piva is one of Montenegro’s most impressive reservoirs, combining natural beauty with a sense of alpine tranquility.
