Lake Pešići is a striking glacial lake, one of the smaller jewels of the Bjelasica mountain range in Montenegro. Its remote, high-altitude location within Biogradska Gora National Park is the primary factor influencing its water characteristics. Swimming is generally allowed as part of wild swimming and hiking recreation, but visitors should be aware that the lake is completely natural and not a regulated bathing area, meaning caution is essential due to the consistently low temperatures and lack of facilities.
The water temperature remains very cold throughout the year, reflecting its glacial origins. In the peak winter months, the lake is often covered by ice and snow, with water temperatures hovering near the freezing point, 0∘C to 2∘C. Even during the warmest part of the year, in July and August, the water only warms up slightly. Surface temperatures typically reach a maximum of just 15∘C to 17∘C. This is cold even for a quick dip and means that swimming is exclusively for the most resilient visitors seeking a bracing, mountain-fresh experience.
