** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years

*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information

Lake Biograd, located in the Biogradska Gora National Park in northern Montenegro, is a glacial lake surrounded by one of the last remaining primeval forests in Europe. Lying at an altitude of about 1,094 meters, the lake is fed by mountain streams and rainwater, which keeps it cool throughout the year. In spring, the water temperature usually ranges between 6 and 10 °C, while in summer it warms slightly to around 15–20 °C, depending on the weather. In autumn, the lake cools back to 10–14 °C, and during winter, it often drops below 5 °C, with the surface sometimes partially freezing. The crystal-clear water reflects the dense forest and nearby mountains, creating a tranquil alpine atmosphere.

Swimming in Lake Biograd is allowed but limited to the warmest months, mainly from July to early September. Even then, the water remains quite cold, making it more suitable for short swims and refreshing dips rather than long bathing. Many visitors prefer boating or walking around the scenic 3 km trail encircling the lake. Due to its clean water and preserved natural environment, Lake Biograd is considered one of Montenegro’s most beautiful mountain lakes, offering a peaceful retreat for nature lovers.
