Lake Trnovac, known as Trnovačko Jezero, is a heart-shaped glacial lake situated near the border of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, within the high mountains of the Durmitor and Maglić ranges. It lies at an altitude of about 1,500 meters and is surrounded by dramatic rocky peaks and lush alpine meadows. The lake is fed by mountain streams and melting snow, which keeps its water cool throughout the year. In spring, the temperature usually ranges from 5 to 9 °C, while in summer it rises to 14–18 °C. In autumn, it cools again to 9–13 °C, and in winter it often freezes completely. The clear turquoise water and striking mountain backdrop make it one of the most beautiful high-altitude lakes in the Balkans.
Swimming in Lake Trnovac is allowed, but due to the cold temperature, it is suitable only for short, refreshing dips during July and August. Even then, the water remains brisk, offering a true mountain experience. Most visitors come for hiking, camping, and photography rather than swimming. Its remote location and unspoiled nature give the lake a sense of peace and isolation, making it a favorite spot for nature enthusiasts and adventurers seeking pristine alpine scenery.
