Slansko Lake (Slano Jezero) is a large, artificial reservoir near the city of Nikšić in Montenegro, known for its clear waters and numerous islands. Created for the needs of a hydro-power plant, the lake’s water quality is generally very good, making it a viable, though generally undeveloped, spot for summer recreation. Swimming is allowed across the lake, as it is a public body of water without official bans, and locals often seek relief here during the hot summer months.
The lake’s water temperature varies significantly between seasons. From October to May, the water is cold, typically ranging from a low of 8∘C to 12∘C, which is too cold for casual swimming. The most suitable time for a dip is during the summer high season, specifically July and August, when the surface temperature can rise to a pleasant range of approximately 20∘C to 24∘C.
