*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Porkuni järv, a small natural lake in northern Estonia, typically follows the seasonal temperature patterns of temperate Baltic inland waters. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures commonly range from about 4–15 °C (39–59 °F) as the lake thaws and warms slowly. Summer (June–August) is the warmest period, with typical temperatures around 16–24 °C (61–75 °F) and occasional warmer spells pushing the surface a few degrees higher. In autumn (September–October) temperatures usually fall back to roughly 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) as cooling sets in. During winter the lake commonly freezes; water beneath the ice remains close to 0 °C (32 °F), with the frozen surface unsuitable for regular swimming except for supervised or experienced ice-swimmers using specially designated spots.
Swimming in Porkuni järv is generally possible in the ice-free months because it is a public natural waterbody, but practical access and safety depend on local conditions. The summer warmth often makes swimming comfortable, while spring and autumn waters are brisk and require caution. There may be no lifeguards, and water quality, submerged hazards and signage can affect where swimming is advisable, so visitors should check local notices, avoid unsafe or posted-restricted areas, and be mindful of sudden temperature-related risks such as cold-water shock.
