** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Käsmu järv typically follows the seasonal rhythms of small northern Estonian coastal lakes. In early spring the surface temperature is often close to freezing, around 0–6 °C (32–43 °F), rising through late spring to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). During summer the lake commonly reaches 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) on warm days, though shallow areas warm faster and sheltered spots can be a degree or two warmer. In autumn temperatures decline back toward 5–12 °C (41–54 °F) before the lake refreezes; winter conditions commonly bring surface ice and water near 0 °C (32 °F). Local weather, depth and wind exposure influence these ranges, so actual conditions vary year to year.
Swimming in Käsmu järv is generally allowed and is a traditional recreational activity for residents and visitors in the warmer months because the lake is accessible and shallow areas provide easy entry. However, swimmers should be aware that water can remain cool even in summer and that conditions change rapidly; hypothermia risk is real in cold water. During winter the ice makes ordinary swimming impossible and only experienced, properly equipped people should attempt ice bathing under safe, supervised conditions. It is sensible to observe any local advisories about water quality or access before entering.
