Soodla Reservoir (Soodla veehoidla) in northern Estonia experiences the same temperate seasonal swings as other inland waters in the region. In spring the surface water typically warms from near freezing to about 2–10 °C (36–50 °F) as ice melts and runoff cools the basin. In summer, on warmer days, surface temperatures commonly reach 15–22 °C (59–72 °F), with shallower bays warming more quickly than deeper or shaded areas. Autumn sees a steady cooling to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) before the lake freezes; winter conditions bring ice cover and water at or close to 0 °C (32 °F) beneath the ice.
Swimming at Soodla Reservoir is generally possible and practiced by locals, but it is not managed like a formal beach in many places. Access is allowed in open areas, yet some stretches near dams, intake structures or private shores are restricted for safety reasons.
