** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lohja järv, like many small inland lakes in Estonia, shows pronounced seasonal variation in surface water temperature. Typical winter conditions see the water at or just above freezing beneath ice cover, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). During spring the surface warms gradually, commonly ranging from about 2–10 °C (35–50 °F) depending on weather and depth. In summer, surface temperatures are most comfortable for bathing, often sitting between 17–24 °C (63–75 °F) on average and occasionally rising to 25–26 °C (77–79 °F) during warm spells; deeper layers remain noticeably cooler. In autumn the lake cools again, with surface readings commonly falling to 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) as the season progresses.
Swimming in Lohja järv is generally possible, as most Estonian lakes permit bathing unless explicitly restricted. Whether it is advisable at any given time depends on local access rules, shoreline ownership and especially water quality: summer cyanobacteria blooms or pollution can make swimming unsafe and may prompt temporary bans. Outside the warm months the low temperatures pose risks of cold shock and hypothermia even for experienced swimmers. For safety, choose designated bathing sites where water quality is monitored, heed local notices and avoid entering the water when algal blooms, strong winds or ice conditions are present.
