** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Kahala järv, like many small Estonian lakes, shows clear seasonal swings in water temperature. After ice breakup in spring the surface water is often cold, roughly 1–8 °C (34–46 °F), rising through late spring to about 8–15 °C (46–59 °F). In summer the lake commonly warms to a comfortable range of about 17–22 °C (63–72 °F), and during warm spells surface temperatures can reach 24–25 °C (75–77 °F) in shallow bays. Come autumn the water cools back down to roughly 10–5 °C (50–41 °F) as mixing and shorter days lower temperatures, while winter brings ice cover and water near freezing, around 0 °C (32 °F) beneath the ice.
Swimming in Kahala järv is possible and routinely practiced during the ice-free months when surface temperatures are in the summer range, making regular bathing pleasant and safe for most people. There is a natural limit to bathing during spring and autumn because colder water increases the risk of shock and hypothermia; normal recreational swimming is not appropriate when temperatures are close to or below 10 °C (50 °F). In winter only experienced ice swimmers using proper precautions and dedicated spots should enter the water. As with any natural lake, local water quality, signage and facilities vary, so visitors should heed local guidance and safety measures.
