Maardu Lake (Maardu järv) typically follows the seasonal temperature patterns of small Estonian lakes. In winter the surface usually approaches freezing, around 0–2 °C (32–36 °F) and can be ice-covered for extended periods. Spring sees a gradual rise, roughly 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) as the water mixes and warms. In summer the lake often reaches its highest temperatures, commonly between 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) and occasionally touching 25 °C (77 °F) on warm spells, making it comfortably swimmable for many people. During autumn the water cools again to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) as daylight shortens and air temperatures drop.
Swimming in Maardu Lake is generally permitted, but suitability depends on current water quality and safety conditions. The lake is relatively shallow and can warm quickly, which may encourage algal growth; authorities monitor bathing water and can issue advisories or temporary closures if pollution or cyanobacterial blooms are detected.
