** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Peipus (Estonian: Peipsi-Pihkva järv) is a very large, relatively shallow lake on the border of Estonia and Russia, and these physical characteristics shape its seasonal water temperatures. In spring, as ice melts, surface temperatures typically range from about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). During summer months the water commonly warms to roughly 17–22 °C (63–72 °F), and on hot spells can reach around 25 °C (77 °F) in sheltered bays. In autumn the lake cools again to approximately 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) before winter freeze-up. In winter the surface is often at or very near freezing, about 0–2 °C (32–36 °F), with ice cover persisting in colder years.
Swimming is permitted and popular during the warmer months at beaches and informal bathing spots, but conditions vary. The lake’s shallowness and nutrient load make some areas prone to turbidity and occasional algal blooms, which can affect water quality and local advisories; wind and waves can also make swimming hazardous at times. Lifeguards are not always available, so visitors should exercise caution, heed local guidance, and avoid swimming during visible blue‑green algae or rough weather. In winter, ice swimming is practiced by some, but it requires proper safety measures, experienced supervision, and knowledge of ice thickness before entering.
