** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Rio Corgo, in the district of Vila Real in northern Portugal, is a relatively small, fast-flowing river that typically runs through steep valleys and rocky channels. Water temperatures vary by season and by altitude: in winter months the river commonly registers around 6–10 °C (43–50 °F), in spring it warms to roughly 10–15 °C (50–59 °F), summer highs in sheltered pools and lower reaches often reach about 16–22 °C (61–72 °F), and in autumn it cools back toward 10–14 °C (50–57 °F). Upstream, at higher elevations or following recent rainfall, temperatures will be at the lower end of these ranges and can drop quickly, while deeper, sun-exposed pools warm more in summer.
Swimming in the Rio Corgo is frequently practiced locally in calm pools and downstream basins, especially during the warmest weeks of summer when temperatures are most tolerable. There are no widespread, formal bathing facilities or lifeguards along much of the river, and some stretches may be on private land or subject to seasonal restrictions, so swimming is effectively allowed but conditional. Swimmers should be cautious about strong currents, slippery rocks, sudden depth changes and cold-water shock outside summer months; checking local signage and water quality reports, and choosing well-known, sheltered spots, improves safety.
