*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Vila Real (in Portuguese - Vila Real), located in northern Portugal’s Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro region, sits near a mix of rivers, reservoirs and mountain lakes whose surface temperatures vary with altitude, season and inflow. Typical seasonal surface ranges for low-lying reservoirs and sheltered lakes are roughly 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) in summer, 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in spring and autumn, and 6–10 °C (43–50 °F) in winter. Higher-elevation or fast-flowing bodies linked to river tributaries can be noticeably cooler, with summer temperatures often only 15–18 °C (59–64 °F). Temperatures drop quickly with depth, so surface readings can overstate how warm the water feels a few metres down.
Swimming is commonly possible in parts of the district but usually only in designated or signposted spots. Many reservoirs and rural lakes permit recreational bathing when water quality and safety assessments are satisfactory, yet some areas are restricted because of drinking-water reservoirs, hydroelectric operations, strong currents, or steep drop-offs. Local authorities or land managers sometimes monitor contamination and post advisories; lifeguards are not guaranteed. For safe swimming, check local signage, recent water-quality information and be mindful of cold-water shock and variable depths.
