** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Rio Távora in the Guarda District typically shows the temperature patterns of a northern/central Portuguese upland river: relatively cool in winter, warming moderately in summer. Typical seasonal ranges are roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in winter, 8–16 °C (46–61 °F) in spring, 16–22 °C (61–72 °F) in summer and 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in autumn. These figures vary with altitude, flow, recent rainfall and whether a stretch is influenced by a dammed reservoir or shaded gorge; shallower, sun-exposed pools warm more than deep or fast-flowing channels. Year-to-year variation is normal, so local readings can differ from the ranges above.
Swimming in the Rio Távora is generally possible in calm, accessible sections and in informal beach-like spots used by locals, but it is not universally permitted or safe everywhere. Restrictions or informal discouragement may apply where water quality, private land, strong currents, sudden depth changes or hydroelectric infrastructure present hazards. Even in summer the water can feel chilly and carries a risk of cold shock, and after heavy rain currents and turbidity increase. Visitors should choose established bathing spots, heed local signage and guidance, and exercise caution regarding temperature, depth and current before entering.
