Location & Local Information
Štirinsko Lake, located in southeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina near Nevesinje, is a small natural lake surrounded by karst fields and gentle hills. Because it lies at a higher altitude of about 900 meters, the water remains relatively cool throughout the year. In winter, the lake’s surface temperature can drop to 2–4°C, while in spring it slowly rises to around 10–13°C. During the summer, the water warms up to 18–22°C, occasionally reaching 24°C during hot periods. In autumn, it cools again to about 10–14°C as air temperatures fall.
Swimming in Štirinsko Lake is possible during the summer months, although it is not officially organized. The water is clean and calm, offering a refreshing experience, but it remains on the cooler side because of the lake’s altitude and underground inflows. There are no developed beaches or facilities, and access to the water is natural and unmodified. Locals sometimes swim or rest by the lake during warm days, enjoying the quiet and natural surroundings. Overall, Štirinsko Lake provides a peaceful setting for recreation, nature walks, and relaxation in a pristine environment.
