Location & Local Information
Uloško Lake (also known as Crvanjsko jezero) is a small, pristine glacial lake located high in the mountains of the Crvanj massiff in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Due to its significant altitude and isolation, the lake maintains a very low and stable temperature throughout the year. In the winter and spring months, the water is extremely cold, frequently dropping to between 0∘C and 6∘C when not frozen. Even during the warmest part of the year, in late July and August, the surface water temperature rarely exceeds 16∘C to 18∘C, making it unsuitable for casual bathing.
Swimming in Uloško Lake is generally permitted but is strictly for the very hardy or experienced cold-water swimmers due to the consistently low temperatures. The lake is protected as a natural feature, with the surrounding area being primarily used for hiking, fishing (with permits), and nature tourism, rather than mass aquatic recreation. There are no developed beaches or dedicated swimming infrastructure; therefore, while access is open, the severe cold of the water makes it an adventure for the few rather than a recreational opportunity for the many.
