It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years

*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information

Lake Klooga (in Estonian - Klooga järv) is a small recreational lake in northern Estonia. Seasonal water temperatures vary considerably: in spring (April–May) the lake is cold, typically around 2–10 °C (36–50 °F) as ice melts and air temperatures rise. Summer (June–August) is the warmest period, when surface temperatures commonly reach about 16–24 °C (61–75 °F) and can climb higher in heat waves. In autumn (September–November) the water cools again to roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F). During winter months (December–March) the surface usually freezes and water temperatures at and below the ice are near freezing, about 0 °C (32 °F), with slightly warmer layers below the ice often around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F).

Swimming at Klooga is generally permitted and used mainly in the summer months when temperatures are comfortable for bathing. Public access to the shoreline means people may swim, but conditions vary by season and by weather; water quality is checked periodically by local authorities and advisories or restrictions can be posted, so it is wise to heed signs. In winter the frozen lake is sometimes used for ice swimming by experienced and properly equipped people, but this carries significant risks (hypothermia, thin ice) and should only be attempted with safety measures in place.
