Kartal Lake, located in the Danube region of Odesa Oblast, is a typical example of a floodplain lake that holds the status of a wetland of international importance. Thanks to its shallow average depth, which is only about one meter (with a maximum of 2.4 meters), the water in the lake warms up very quickly and intensely throughout the summer season. At the peak of the heat, typically in July and August, Kartal's water temperature reaches a comfortable +24 to +26∘C, making it very pleasant for swimming and extended periods in the water. The lake freezes in winter.
