Kytai Lake, located in the southern part of Odesa Oblast near the Danube Delta, is a shallow and elongated body of water that forms part of the system of lower Danube lakes. Its average depth rarely exceeds 2–3 m, which means that during summer months the water warms up quickly, often reaching 24–27°C in calm weather. The temperature can fluctuate depending on wind direction and water exchange with nearby channels, but generally, the lake remains pleasantly warm for most of the bathing season.
Because of its natural character and remoteness, Kytai Lake is not a developed recreational area, yet locals do swim there, mainly along the more accessible and sandy banks. The water is relatively calm, with little current, making it safe for short swims in suitable weather. However, because parts of the lake are overgrown with reeds and the bottom can be soft or silty, it’s best to choose open, cleaner sections for bathing. The lake’s peaceful environment and warm shallow water create a quiet, natural atmosphere for swimming away from crowded resorts.
