Kahul Lake, located in the far south of Odesa Oblast near the border with Moldova, is one of the largest freshwater lakes in this part of Ukraine. Its shallow depth and open, sun-exposed position make the water warm up quickly in late spring. During the summer months, water temperatures often reach 24–27°C, and in especially hot periods can rise even higher, creating very comfortable conditions for swimming. However, because the lake is relatively shallow and surrounded by steppe landscapes, water can sometimes become murky due to algae growth or sediment stirred up by the wind.
Swimming in Kahul Lake is generally pleasant in calm weather, especially near the sandy or gently sloping shores. The natural surroundings give it a quiet, wild feel, attracting those who prefer uncrowded, natural places rather than organized resorts.
