Ferizaj (Ferizaji / Урошевац) is a city in central Kosovo known for the unique Nerodime River, which exhibits a rare natural bifurcation, with its branches flowing toward two different seas. The water bodies in the area, primarily the Nerodime and its tributaries, have seasonal temperatures typical of Kosovo's continental climate. During the colder winter months, the rivers are very cold, with temperatures generally ranging between 4∘C and 8∘C, and ice may form in stagnant sections. In the summer, the shallower waters and warm air temperatures allow the river surface to warm up, potentially reaching 18∘C to 22∘C during the warmest periods.
Swimming in the rivers and smaller lakes near Ferizaj is not formally regulated for public use and is generally discouraged. Although the summer water temperatures might seem acceptable, the primary concern, particularly within and downstream of the urban area, is the compromised water quality. These water bodies often receive urban and industrial discharges, which lead to varying levels of contamination, making them hygienically unsafe for bathing.
