Water Temperature Trends
Mykolaiv Oblast, located in southern Ukraine along the Black Sea coast, has both a maritime and inland water environment. The Black Sea water temperature along Mykolaiv’s coast is typically warm during the summer months, ranging from 22°C to 26°C (72°F to 79°F), making it a prime location for swimming, fishing, and recreational water activities. The warmer waters attract numerous visitors to the coastal areas, especially during the summer, when the region is known for its beaches and resorts.
During the spring and autumn, the water temperature in the Black Sea around Mykolaiv drops to around 14°C to 18°C (57°F to 64°F). While these temperatures may not be ideal for swimming, they still allow for boating, fishing, and other outdoor activities along the coast. The region’s rivers, such as the Southern Bug, also experience similar temperature fluctuations, with warmer conditions in the summer (18°C to 22°C or 64°F to 72°F) and cooler temperatures during the colder months, around 0°C to 4°C (32°F to 39°F). In winter, the temperatures in both the rivers and the sea drop further, and in some cases, sections of rivers may freeze, though the Black Sea rarely freezes, offering only colder conditions for coastal activities.
