*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Vättern in Östergötland County is notable for its large volume and clear, cold water. Seasonal surface temperatures typically range from about 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in winter up to roughly 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) in summer, with sheltered southern bays occasionally reaching 21–22 °C (70–72 °F) on warm late‑summer days. Spring temperatures usually climb from around 2–10 °C (36–50 °F) as the ice melts and the water mixes, while autumn cooling sees surface values commonly between 8–14 °C (46–57 °F). Deeper parts of the lake remain much colder year‑round, and water clarity means cold water can be encountered close to shore as well.
Swimming in Vättern is allowed and commonly practiced; there are public beaches, designated bathing sites and popular open‑water swimming spots around Östergötland. The lake’s generally good water quality and scenic settings make it attractive for swimmers and triathletes, but the cold temperatures, sudden changes with depth, boat traffic and occasional currents require caution. Wetsuits are frequently used for comfort and safety, and swimmers should heed local signs, use designated bathing areas when available and be aware of cold‑water shock and hypothermia risk, especially outside the warmest weeks.
