** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Östra Lägern (Östra Lägern) is a modest lake in Östergötland whose surface temperatures follow the typical seasonal pattern for lakes in southern Sweden. In winter the water is usually close to freezing, around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), and the lake may be ice-covered some years. Spring brings a steady rise, with surface waters often between 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as the ice melts and the sun warms the shallows. Peak summer temperatures commonly reach 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) in July and August, with the warmest shallow bays occasionally approaching 25 °C (77 °F) in hot summers. During autumn the surface cools again to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) before the onset of winter cooling and ice formation.
Swimming in Östra Lägern is generally permitted under Sweden’s right of public access (allemansrätten), so recreational bathing is commonly practised in summer where there is safe shoreline access. Local factors such as water quality, underwater hazards, sudden depth changes and boat traffic determine suitable spots, so visitors should choose established entry points, heed any posted advisories and check for algal blooms after prolonged calm and heat. Lifesaving infrastructure may be limited, so moderate caution and awareness of cold shock in cooler months are recommended.
