** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The small lake Ämmern in Östergötland County typically follows the seasonal temperature patterns of southern Swedish lakes. In spring, after ice breakup, surface water temperatures are often in the 2–10 °C range (36–50 °F) as the water slowly warms. By early summer temperatures commonly rise to around 15–20 °C (59–68 °F), with the warmest late-summer days sometimes reaching 20–22 °C (68–72 °F) at the surface in sheltered, shallow areas. In autumn the lake cools back to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F), and in winter the surface is close to freezing, typically 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) where ice is present. Local weather, wind and depth cause variation, so temperatures can differ between years and locations around the shoreline.
Swimming at Ämmern is generally permitted and commonly practised during the warmer months because Sweden’s right of public access (allemansrätten) allows people to use many natural shores unless specific restrictions are posted. However, suitability for bathing depends on water temperature, water quality and local safety conditions; colder spring and autumn water and winter ice make swimming risky without proper precautions. Visitors should heed any posted notices about bathing water quality, be cautious of sudden temperature changes, and avoid swimming alone or in unsafe weather.
