The lake known locally as Boren, in Östergötland County, typically shows clear seasonal variation in surface temperatures. In winter the water commonly sits around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) where ice cover can form, while spring sees a gradual rise to roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). The warmest period is midsummer, with surface temperatures often between 15–23 °C (59–73 °F) in July and August on average, though particularly warm summers can push values slightly higher. During autumn the lake cools again to about 5–15 °C (41–59 °F) as nights get colder and mixing increases. Local factors such as wind, depth variations and inflows from streams or the Göta Canal can cause short-term differences in temperature between bays and open water.
Swimming in Boren is generally allowed and commonly practised during the warmer months because the lake has public access points and several maintained bathing areas.
