** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Vacha Reservoir (Язовир Въча) in southern Bulgaria typically shows pronounced seasonal shifts in water temperature. In spring the surface waters commonly range from about 5–15 °C (41–59 °F) as snowmelt and cool river inflow dominate; in summer sheltered areas and the upper layer can warm to roughly 20–25 °C (68–77 °F), sometimes a little higher in heatwaves. During autumn temperatures usually fall to about 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) as cooling begins, while winter surface temperatures can approach freezing, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), and parts of the reservoir may ice over in cold spells. Deeper zones remain colder year-round, so overall water can feel much colder than the surface readings suggest.
Swimming opportunities depend on location and local rules. Because Vacha is an operational reservoir used for water supply and hydroelectric management, many areas near the dam, intakes and working infrastructure are officially restricted for safety and water-protection reasons; sudden releases, currents and water-quality regulations are primary concerns. Nevertheless, in summer people often swim in quieter coves and bays where bathing is tolerated and surface temperatures are most comfortable. Visitors should heed posted signs, follow municipal regulations and be cautious of submerged hazards, changing water levels and cold deeper water even on warm days.
