** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Batak Reservoir (язовир Батак) is a mountain-fed lake in southern Bulgaria whose water remains relatively cool year-round. In winter the surface can approach freezing, typically around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and ice cover is possible in cold spells. Spring brings gradual warming to roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). In summer, sheltered bays and shallower edges commonly reach about 18–25 °C (64–77 °F), though deeper or wind-exposed areas stay several degrees cooler; late summer peaks can occasionally be a degree or two higher. Autumn sees steady cooling, with temperatures generally between 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) depending on air temperature and recent rainfall.
Swimming at Batak is a popular summer activity in suitable bays and near leisure sites, and many visitors swim informally when conditions are calm and water is warmest. Official restrictions may apply near the dam, intake structures or boating channels for safety and water-management reasons, and organized beaches may lack lifeguards. Because the reservoir is deep and receives cool inflows, swimmers should be cautious about cold shock and sudden temperature changes, avoid areas with motorboat traffic, and follow local signs and regulations that protect both safety and water resources.
