** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Popovo Lake (Попово езеро) is a high-altitude glacial lake in the Pirin Mountains, so its water stays cold year-round. In winter the lake typically freezes and water temperatures are around 0 °C (32 °F). During spring melt the surface usually remains very cold, roughly 1–6 °C (34–43 °F). In the warmest summer months surface temperatures may rise to about 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) on calm, sunny days, but deeper water remains much colder. By autumn surface temperatures fall again to roughly 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) before the lake refreezes.
Swimming is physically possible but generally not recommended. The combination of low temperatures, sudden mountain weather changes, remoteness and lack of safety services makes immersion risky for hypothermia and accidents. Additionally Popovo Lake lies within a protected national park, and visitors are expected to avoid disturbing the fragile alpine environment; while occasional informal swims occur, park rules and conservation ethics mean bathing is discouraged or effectively prohibited in practice. For both safety and environmental reasons most guides and park authorities advise enjoying the lake from shore rather than entering the water.
