*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Dospat Reservoir (Язовир Доспат) is a highland impoundment in the Rhodope Mountains and its water temperatures reflect the cooler mountain climate. In spring (March to May) surface temperatures typically range from around 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as snowmelt and cold nights keep the water chilly. In summer (June to August) the shallow and sheltered bays can warm to roughly 16–22 °C (61–72 °F), which is the most comfortable period for swimming. Autumn (September to November) brings a steady cooling to about 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) and by winter (December to February) the reservoir surface often approaches freezing, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), with ice forming in cold spells.
Swimming in Dospat is possible and people do bathe there in summer, but it is not organized like a monitored seaside beach and access varies. Official restrictions may apply near the dam, intake structures or in zones used for boating and fishing, and there are few lifeguards or facilities. The water quality is generally good, but swimmers should be aware of cold temperatures even in summer, sudden depth changes, submerged obstacles and boat traffic. Local signage and guidance should be followed for safety and for any seasonal or site-specific prohibitions.
