Water Temperature: Daily Trends, Historical Records, and Forecast

⚠️ As of today, the minimum water temperature ranges from 60°F (15°C) to 65°F (18°C). The water is comfortable for most people, making it an ideal range for water sports enthusiasts. The temperature does not cause significant discomfort, and swimming will be pleasant for the majority. However, it's important to remember that prolonged exposure to the water can still lead to cooling, so it's essential to monitor the time spent in the water, especially for children or elderly people. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information

Synevyr Lake is the largest and most famous high-altitude lake in Ukraine, located in Zakarpattia at an altitude of nearly 1000 meters. This glacial-origin reservoir, known as the Sea Eye of the Carpathians, has a significant depth (up to 24 meters), which is the key factor determining its temperature regime. Even during the hottest summer months, the water temperature in the lake remains very low. The surface layer may warm up to a maximum of +13∘C (with some reports suggesting up to +18∘C only near the shores), while at depth, the temperature constantly stays around +4 to +5∘C.

Given its status, swimming opportunities in Synevyr Lake are completely nonexistent and strictly prohibited. There are two main reasons for this. Firstly, Synevyr is part of a National Nature Park and is protected by the international Ramsar Convention as a wetland of international importance, so any interference with its ecosystem, including swimming, is punishable by a fine. Secondly, due to the icy water, especially when combined with the considerable depth and potential underwater currents, swimming is extremely dangerous and poses a severe risk of hypothermia and cramps.

Thus, Synevyr Lake is purely a tourist attraction for sightseeing and ecological recreation. Tourists come here to enjoy the unique landscapes and crystal-clear water, but for swimming and water activities, they must choose other designated locations.
