Location & Local Information
The Starina reservoir in eastern Slovakia is the largest drinking water reservoir in the country, situated in the Bukovské vrchy. Because of its primary role as a source of clean water for the region, swimming and other recreational activities in the lake itself are strictly prohibited. The water here is very clean, but it remains cold for most of the year due to its mountain location, often staying below 18 °C even in summer.
Although direct bathing in the reservoir is not possible, the surrounding area is attractive for hiking and spending time in nature. The climate and the water temperature create a refreshing atmosphere, especially in hot summer days. For those who want to swim, smaller natural lakes and rivers outside the protected zone of the reservoir provide better options.
