Morské oko, located in the Vihorlat Mountains of eastern Slovakia, is one of the most beautiful natural lakes in the country. Because it lies in a forested mountain area at higher altitude, its water remains relatively cold throughout the year. Even in the peak of summer, the temperature usually does not rise much above 18–20 °C, and on cooler days it can feel noticeably chilly. The shaded surroundings and inflow of fresh mountain streams keep the water clear but brisk.
Swimming in Morské oko is generally not common and the lake is more valued for its pristine nature and hiking atmosphere.
