Morské oko, located in the Vihorlat Mountains of eastern Slovakia, is one of the most beautiful natural lakes in the country. Because it lies in a forested mountain area at higher altitude, its water remains relatively cold throughout the year. Even in the peak of summer, the temperature usually does not rise much above 18–20 °C, and on cooler days it can feel noticeably chilly. The shaded surroundings and inflow of fresh mountain streams keep the water clear but brisk.
Swimming in Morské oko is generally not common and the lake is more valued for its pristine nature and hiking atmosphere. Visitors usually come here to enjoy the view, walk around the shoreline, or relax in the peaceful environment rather than to bathe. For those who like cold water swimming, a short dip might be possible in summer, but most people prefer to admire the lake from the shore and treat it as a natural gem rather than a recreational swimming spot.
