Location & Local Information
Lake Nesamovyte is one of the most famous high-mountain lakes in Ukraine, located on the slopes of Mount Turkul in the Chornohora range at an altitude of about 1750 meters. Because of its elevation, the water in the lake remains cold even in midsummer — usually between 8 and 14°C in July and August. The lake is fed mainly by melting snow and mountain streams, so the temperature can fluctuate depending on weather and rainfall.
Swimming in Lake Nesamovyte is technically possible but rarely done, as the water is extremely chilly and the conditions can be harsh even on warm days. Most visitors limit themselves to refreshing their feet or splashing a bit after a long hike. The lake’s surroundings — alpine meadows, steep ridges, and crisp mountain air — make it more of a scenic and meditative stop than a bathing destination.
