** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#South Yorkshire
Strines Reservoir, set in the upland countryside of South Yorkshire, typically has cool water year-round. Surface temperatures in summer commonly reach about 15–18 °C (59–64 °F) on warmer days, while spring and autumn averages are nearer 8–14 °C (46–57 °F). In late winter the reservoir can fall to around 4–6 °C (39–43 °F), with deeper water remaining colder. Local weather, recent rainfall and depth all influence these figures, so conditions can vary from day to day.
Swimming in Strines is generally discouraged and often not permitted for safety and water-quality reasons. Reservoirs present hazards such as cold-water shock, steep sides, underwater obstacles and operational changes in water levels; for those reasons land managers and water authorities advise against unsupervised bathing. Despite this, the area is popular for outdoor activity: walkers and cyclists use the surrounding moorland trails, and there are nearby reservoirs, village cafés and scenic viewpoints that attract visitors looking for low-impact recreation rather than formal swimming facilities.
