*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#South Yorkshire
Langsett Reservoir sits high in the Peak District, so its water stays relatively cool throughout the year. Typical surface temperatures in winter are around 2–6 °C (36–43 °F), rising slowly in spring to roughly 5–12 °C (41–54 °F). In summer the water often reaches 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) and on very warm days may approach 20 °C (68 °F), while autumn sees a decline back toward spring levels. Because the reservoir is deep and fed by upland streams, temperatures can be several degrees colder below the surface and change quickly with weather, so perceived warmth can differ from air temperature.
Swimming in Langsett is generally discouraged and effectively prohibited by the water authority because the reservoir supplies drinking water and poses safety risks such as cold-water shock, steep banks and underwater hazards. Informal wild swimming does occur elsewhere in the Peak District, but visitors should follow local rules and warnings. The area is popular for moorland walks, birdwatching and cycling, and nearby reservoirs such as Howden and Ladybower, plus trails on the surrounding hills, offer scenic alternatives for outdoor recreation.
