*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Derbyshire
Derwent Reservoir in the Upper Derwent Valley is a deep, upland reservoir so water temperatures stay cool year-round. Seasonal surface temperatures typically range from around 4–6 °C (39–43 °F) in mid-winter to roughly 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) through the summer, with spring and autumn sitting between about 6–10 °C (43–50 °F). Because of its depth and exposure, even summer water can feel brisk and thermally variable between surface and deeper layers, so hypothermia is a real risk for unprepared swimmers.
Swimming at Derwent Reservoir is generally not permitted or actively discouraged. The reservoir forms part of a managed water supply and there are safety and environmental reasons for restricting access; there are no designated supervised bathing areas and strong, cold currents can be hazardous. Occasional organised events may take place with permission, but casual wild swimming is both unsafe and frowned upon. Visitors commonly enjoy nearby attractions instead: scenic walks around Ladybower and Howden reservoirs, moorland hiking, birdwatching, and visiting local villages such as Bamford or Hathersage for cafes and climbing access.
