** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#South Yorkshire
Broomhead Reservoir, set in the northern Peak District near Bradfield in South Yorkshire, has cool water year-round. Surface temperatures typically range from around 2–6 °C (36–43 °F) in winter, rising to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in spring. In summer the reservoir may warm to about 14–20 °C (57–68 °F), occasionally reaching 20–22 °C (68–72 °F) during hot spells, before cooling again through autumn. These figures are approximate and can vary with weather, depth and wind conditions; deeper water remains colder than the surface.
Swimming is not formally promoted at Broomhead and is generally discouraged because it is an operational upland reservoir with cold, deep water, underwater hazards and no lifeguard service. Wild swimmers sometimes enter for short dips, but this is at personal risk and local signage or landowner advice should be followed. The area remains attractive for visitors, offering moorland walks, cycling routes, birdwatching and scenic views of the Peak District; nearby gritstone edges and other Upper Don valley reservoirs provide additional outdoor opportunities.
