*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Derbyshire
The Longdendale Chain of reservoirs in Derbyshire tends to be cold year-round. Summer surface temperatures typically reach around 14–20 °C (57–68 °F) on warmer days, while spring and autumn commonly see 6–14 °C (43–57 °F). In winter the water can sit close to freezing, roughly 0–6 °C (32–43 °F), especially beneath any surface ice. Deeper water remains colder than the surface, so temperature can fall several degrees within a short depth.
Swimming in the Longdendale reservoirs is generally discouraged and in some places effectively prohibited by the water company and local authorities. Reasons include protection of the drinking-water supply, no lifeguards, hidden currents and structures, and the serious risk of cold-water shock at these temperatures. Despite occasional visits by experienced wild swimmers, any swimming carries safety and legal considerations. The area remains attractive for walking and cycling on the Longdendale Trail and nearby Pennine routes, with good birdwatching, scenic views and easy access from Glossop and other Peak District gateways.
