** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Derbyshire
The Upper Derwent Valley reservoirs in Derbyshire are fed by cool upland streams and remain chilly even in summer. Surface temperatures typically peak in mid to late summer around 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) on warm days, fall to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in spring and autumn, and sit near freezing in winter at about 0–6 °C (32–43 °F). Deeper water stays colder year-round, so the apparent warmth at the surface can be misleading. Wind, rain and shading from surrounding moorland also influence short-term variations.
Swimming in the reservoirs is generally discouraged and often not permitted because they are working water supplies with concealed structures, strong currents near inlets and outlets, and very low temperatures that increase the risk of cold water shock. Informal wild swimming sometimes occurs in safer, shallower local streams and pools, but visitors should check signage and local guidance before entering the water. The area offers plenty of dry activities nearby, including reservoir walks around Ladybower and Derwent, cycling, moorland hiking to Kinder Scout, and historic villages such as Hathersage and nearby Chatsworth House.
