** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#South Yorkshire
Dale Dyke Reservoir sits in South Yorkshire with water that remains cool year-round because of its depth and upland setting. Typical seasonal surface temperatures are roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) in spring, 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) in summer, 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) in autumn and around 0–6 °C (32–43 °F) through winter. Even in the warmest months the water is on the chilly side for most swimmers, and sudden changes in weather can quickly lower surface temperatures. Cold water presents risks such as cold shock and reduced swimming endurance.
Swimming is not provided for as a formal activity at Dale Dyke and is generally discouraged or restricted by the reservoir’s managers because of steep banks, deep water, possible undercurrents and infrastructure related to water supply. Some experienced open-water swimmers choose nearby managed sites or organised events where safety cover exists, but unsupervised bathing here is not advised. The area remains attractive for walking, birdwatching and moorland scenery, with other nearby reservoirs and upland trails offering pleasant alternatives for outdoor recreation.
