** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#South Yorkshire
Rivelin Dams, set in the wooded Rivelin Valley on the western edge of Sheffield, are small upland reservoirs whose water stays relatively cold year-round. Typical surface temperatures in spring are around 4–12 °C (39–54 °F), rising in summer to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) on warmer days. Autumn usually brings a decline to about 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), while winter temperatures can fall to near freezing or a few degrees above, roughly 0–6 °C (32–43 °F), with colder snaps possible. Because they are shallow and shaded in parts, temperatures can vary locally and feel colder than open lowland lakes.
Swimming at Rivelin Dams is not a designated activity and is generally discouraged or prohibited by local authorities and the water company because of safety and water-quality concerns. Cold-water shock, submerged hazards, and operational infrastructure make unsupervised bathing risky, though some experienced wild swimmers visit at their own risk. The area remains popular for walking, birdwatching and cycling along the valley trails, and the reservoirs provide a pleasant gateway to Sheffield’s green spaces and nearby Peak District scenery.
