Red’kyne Lake (also known as Ministerka or Міністерське озеро) in Kyiv is an artificial lake formed in the 1970s from a former sand quarry, now integrated into the northern Obolon area. Its average depth lies around 8-9 meters, with maximum depths reaching up to 14 meters, and it has uneven bottoms with both shallow and steep sections. Because of its depth and connection to underground sources, parts of the lake tend to stay cooler, and water clarity is often relatively good even in warm weather.
On hot summer days, the shallow, sunlit edges can warm to the low twenties (around 20–24 °C), making them more suitable for swimming. Deeper parts remain colder and less comfortable for casual swims. In recent years, a renovated beach area has been opened on the lake, equipped with amenities and more organized access, which suggests that swimming there is increasingly supported. However, safety always depends on local conditions—checking water clarity, entry points, and absence of underwater hazards is wise.
