Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. ** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Norefjorden, a lake in the former Buskerud area of Norway, typically has marked seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In summer months the surface often warms to about 14–22 °C (57–72 °F), with sheltered bays and shallow areas reaching the higher end on warm, calm days. During spring the water is usually cold as it recovers from winter, roughly 2–10 °C (36–50 °F), and autumn sees a gradual cooling to about 6–15 °C (43–59 °F) depending on weather and wind. In winter the lake can approach freezing, with surface temperatures near 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) where it is not frozen solid; ice cover can form and persist in particularly cold spells. Local depth, inflow, and recent weather all influence these ranges.
Swimming in Norefjorden is generally allowed, in line with Norway’s strong tradition of public access to nature. Many people swim there in summer when surface temperatures are most comfortable, but caution is advised because even summer water can feel cold and prolonged immersion risks cold shock or hypothermia. In winter, swimming is not advisable except for experienced ice swimmers using proper safety precautions. Boat traffic, wind-driven waves, and variable depths mean swimmers should choose sheltered spots, check local guidance on water quality and safety, and never swim alone.
