*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Stolsvatnet, a lake in the former Buskerud County of Norway, typically shows marked seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In spring (April–June) surface temperatures commonly range from about 2–10 °C (36–50 °F) as snowmelt and cool air keep the water cold. Summer (June–August) brings the warmest conditions, with surface readings often between roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) at popular shallow spots on warm years, though deeper parts remain noticeably colder. In autumn (September–October) temperatures usually fall back to around 5–12 °C (41–54 °F), and in winter the lake commonly approaches freezing with surface ice and water just above 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) where liquid water persists under or around the ice.
Swimming at Stolsvatnet is physically possible and commonly practiced in summer, but it is subject to practical and safety considerations. The lake is a regulated reservoir in parts, so water levels and currents can change with hydroelectric operations; this can make some shorelines unsafe and some areas restricted, so local signage and rules should be checked. Cold-water shock remains a real risk outside peak summer months and in deeper water year-round. In winter the presence of ice makes open-water swimming unsafe except for prepared ice-swimmers with appropriate safety measures.
